What is IMAP?

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol, formerly known as the Interactive Mail Access Protocol) is a protocol for email clients to retrieve email messages from, and work with the mailboxes on, a mail server. IMAP is the protocol that IMAP clients use to communicate with the servers. Communilink Webmail and IMAP are designed to work together. This means that when you look at your email through IMAP, you will see exactly the same results as if you had used your web browser through Webmail. The reverse is also true.

IMAP4 is considered as a substitute of POP3, because IMAP allows you to access your email messages and files without transferring them between computers. You set up IMAP on the computer(s) from which you want to access email from your account.
